I made Hokusai's painting darker and more dramatic.

I changed almost all the colors except the canoes so they still stood out in the dark scene.

Today At cyber smart we made Andy Warhol pop art.

We used the site Lunapic to colour in or faces and the background.

I think it turned out really well what do you think. It was really fun and really easy.

Volcano Art

This term we have been learning about volcanoes. We have been learning about how they're made, what they are made of and how they shape our country. We learned about the types of volcanoes on our earth and which ones are dangerous and safe. To wrap up our study we decided to do some water color art. We haven't used water color often so first we did a bit of experimenting. After that we picked a volcano shape started painting our masterpieces. I chose to do a cone volcano in a sunset and it turned out really vibrant and cool hope you enjoy.

Making Music

Our cybersmart focus at the moment is making original music. First we had to pick an image to base the mood of our song on. I picked a lion and a snake. Next we went onto the really cool website Soundtrap and started exploring the thousands of tracks. We each pieced together our own songs. It was hard finding the right tone but really fun. Everybodys ended up sounding really unique

Persuasive Writting

Persuasive Writing

This term we have been focusing on persuasive writing. Persuasive writing is trying to convince people of somthing. Our peice of writing was formed around this statment. The idea that zoos  are cruel and should be banned is... I disagreed with the statment and brainstormed three main points here is my writing.

I think that the idea that zoos are bad and should be banned is absurd. In fact I think that zoos help encourage people to care about climate change and the animals it's affecting.

My first reason that I disagree with the statement is that a lot of the animals in zoos have been found hurt or sick. Like Tahi the famous one legged kiwi. If Tahi was not found and treated by the zoo, he would have starved and died adding to the already diminishing population of kiwi. If we banned zoos hundreds of animals will face the same fate as Tahi but not make it out the other side.

My second reason is that zoos are keeping some of the rarest and most vulnerable animals in the world alive. In a zoo in Shanghai, lives two yangtze softshell turtles. They are the biggest and rarest turtles in the would. The black market trade for their shells became so big that the animal became extinct in the wild, only the two in the zoo were left. The male turtle in the zoo was unable to mate with the female. The turtles were getting older and soon even the female was going to be unable to mate. The species was thought to die. But in 2019 sightings became famous in a small lake of a giant turtle. Biologist Forrest Galante searched with his team and found and captured a wild male turtle. A turtle that was thought not to exist. The female and the new male were put in a lakeside sanctuary  and thanks to the zoo and Forrest's efforts, their population is finally rising again.

My third and final reason is the education given to the general public.  A study from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums showed that over 700 million people visit zoos every year. That's 700 million people getting new knowledge of the amazing animals that roam our planet.

So, do you want dozens more animals to go extinct. And people just to leave hurt and sick animals to die. NO! We want to keep zoos. Educate millions of people and save some of the most important animals in this world.

So let's keep zoos!!!

Today in tech we were making hats for our school camp. We are going to Mt Ruapehu and every ski camp beanies are made so the teachers can see us on the mountain. Every hat is made from three sections of thick green material and three fluro pieces of cotton.  Before we can sew all these pecies of fabric, we need to cut every hat out. There are 17 kids in our classroom which means there were 51 base layers to cut out and 51 fleuro pieces. After 1 hour and 30 minutes we finished, ready to sew them together next week.    

My Music

Today we were learning how to make our own music WE used an app called chrome music lab. I choose the setting ARPEGGIOS and my tune worked out really well. Some challenges were trying to get the timing in my music right. Im really happy with the outcome Hope you enjoy!

Today me and Charlie followed a video to make some art. The art is in the shape of a triangle. We got 5 different colors and put the into our triangle. The colours were yellow pink white light blue and dark blue

Yeast

Today with Mrs Torrie we made Gifs. In class at the moment we are looking at types of fungi. Yeast is a type of single strand fungi and we all made our gifs around that topic. We made a gif that explains what happens when you feed and activate yeast. It bubbles, creates carbon dioxide and expands.

SAM CANE

Today with Mrs Allan we practiced note taking. We read through Kiwi Kids News and found an article that suited us. Then we read through it taking out all of the key words. Once we had a big brain dump of words we started writing out a new paragraph of information. Me and Charlie's one was about Sam Cane becoming captain of the All Blacks.

The crowd roars with the beat of my heart. My stomach is a knotted mess. Blinking cameras warm behind me.Good luck man I whisper to Yohan Blake my training buddy from jamaica “ Yea man he replies in a quiet voice. I line up on number 7 and I look at my competitors. The loud speaker yells my name, Usain Bolt I fist pump the air. Let's do this. I rest my feet on the starting box and the crowd goes silent.I count down in my head. BANG My heart misses a beat and my body goes into overdrive . My blood is replaced by adrenaline as my legs pump up and down. I see Blake at my side and make myself go faster. I think of my grandfather who died last year. For him I think to myself; for him. My legs stretch further and my breath gets faster.10 meters from the line I start to break away.I close my eyes and go flying over the line. 1st

Pinwheel Scones

Flour, cinnamon and sugar too,

eggs, milk, butter in a thick pale goo.

Sift in the baking powder to make them rise,

yummy mixture makes my appetite hit a high.

Squish, knead, roll;  there's your dough,

sprinkle on the cinnamon and in the oven they go.

15 minutes I sit and wait,

for the most  perfect scones to bake.

Delicious smells start to drift,

on my plate in a perfect twist.

I open wide and take a bite,

my mouth is filled with the sweetest delight.

Ridiculous Rocky Road

Ridiculous Rocky Road

For school tech we had to create our own flavoured ice cream. \
The plan was we could use chocolate and marshmallows but
we had to use 1 fresh ingredient like mint and berries.



 We made Rocky Road, in our chocolate flavoured ice cream we

had marshmallows,frozen berries and a sprinkle of roasted peanuts.

It was hard thinking about what flavour to do because there's so many
flavors of ice cream to choose from.

Our ice cream turned out well and was delicious.

This activity was really fun but there was a lot of beating
involved (you probably will get a sore hand at the end of it).

After making our Ice cream we made a poster

Sunflowers

Swaying in the wind like a yellow Anemone in the deep ocean current. 
Watching the sun intensely in jealousy as others give in and bow to the mighty yellow orb.
 Bee’s tickle me until my petals start to fray. 
Once staunch flowers look down and cry as they disappear with summer. 
A dark cloud smothers the yellow beast as the last flower drops his head and surrenders to winter.
 Months pass then; a seed, a stork and a new army faces the robust sun.

ABOUT ME

Hi my name is Blake and i'm a year 8 at Matawai School. I live on a sheep and beef farm with my parents and 2 brothers. We have a pet cat and 6 working dogs for farming.
At  Matawai school my favourite subjects are Art and P.E. I like doing free writings about Action. One of my challenges at school is editing my writing. My goals for this year are making my writing more descriptive and getting better  editing.
I enjoy eeling, hunting and entomology. I like sports and doing things outside that involve animals. My challenge this year is to shoot a deer that last one I
